Global changes affect every part of our living imposing the need for changes.Enlarging people`s choices is possible only by increasing their education, knowledge,skills and competences. Nevertheless, sustainable development is also largelypredetermined by the reproductive capacity of the population. Age structure affects theneeds and potentials for development through the ability for adapting to the challenges ofthe new economy. Age through the impact on productivity includes human capital as afactor through which demography affects economic growth. Risks we are facing today arelargely influenced by the low education and unfavorable age structure of the ruralpopulation. Increasing human capital, as individual but also a social “property”, is the mainprecondition for sustainable development. This paper will present educational and agestructure of rural population, with accent on indigenous animal breeding data. The mainpurpose will be to show that there is an immense need to increase the knowledge andimprove the age structure of people dealing with animal breeding.
