Occupational health problems in red pine (Pinus brutia) processing sawmills

One of the fast growing tree species of red pine (pinus brutia) that is widespread in Turkey was chosen in this study. However, it is also one of the most utilized softwood species in forest products sector in Turkey.During the processing of this wood, knowledge of the health problems that may occur on employees is important. For this purpose, sawmills that utilized red pine species to produce lumber were investigated in terms of employees' health problems.The study is on the basis of face to face interview method to employees. The questionnaire was contains three sub sections on the basis of; demographic, physical, environmental and ergonomic factors that effects on employees health. The collected data was statistically evaluated and compared with literature. However, some important findings were presented as graph for comparison.According to the study results; The complaints of employees due to red pine sawing process during working time as follows; allergic reactions due to dust is 23.2%, eyes burning and redness is 27.4%, dyspnea is 30.5 %, long-term standing and discomfort is 64.9 %, noise-induced hearing loss is 38.5%. However, is also realized that occupational diseases such as; vascular disorders (professional varicose) have not only depend on working environment and conditions but it may also occur depending on the age of employees.
