Uma égua virgem de três anos de idade teve seu ciclo estral acompanhado diariamente, por exame clínico e ecográfico transretal, para a descrição das modificações estruturais do útero e dos ovários. Concluiu-se que é possível diagnosticar por ecografia a fase do ciclo estral na égua, desde que se leve em consideração o número e tamanho dos folículos, a presença e morfologia de um Corpo luteo (Cl) e as características da parede uterina.

A three year old maiden mare was submitted to daily transrectal examination in order to describe the clinical alterations of ultrasound images of the uterus and ovaries during the oestrus cycle. It was concluded that the diagnose of the oestrus cycle phases in the mare means ultrasound is feasible taking into consideration the number and size of follicles, the presence and morphology of a "Corpus luteum" and the uterine wall characteristics.
