Non-destructive determination of apple quality parameters of variety ´red jonaprince´ using near infrared spectroscopy

Near-infrared spectroscopy can be also to determine the quality of fruits. We used it for nondestructive determination of soluble solid content, flesh firmness, pH, and acid content of apples of the variety ´Red Jonaprince´. The spectral data and values obtained by classical destructive methods were used to create calibration models for non-invasive measurements. The use of the laboratory instrument Antaris II produced more accurate results. In contrast, the MicroPhazir instrument is considerably less accurate, but its advantages are mobility and field measurement capability. The best determination coefficient R2 = 0.960 was obtained with the Antaris II for soluble solid content model. On the other hand, the least accurate was the determination of flesh firmness using MicroPhazir, featuring a determination coefficient of only 0.361.
