Changes in physical properties of soil under renewed cattle grazing at Švýcárna site
2019

The aim of this study was to evaluate changes in physical soil properties of grasslands in the locality of Švýcárna (1304 m a.s.l., Praděd National Natural Reserve), where the cattle grazing after the long-term management cessation was introduced on the pasture area of 3.6 ha in 2021. There were conducted the samplings of the soil from different places of the lodge surroundings (P1 - above the lodge; P2 - below the lodge) in spring seasons 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2019. Physical properties were determined as follows: bulk density, total porosity, maximum capillary water capacity, retention water capacity. There was a significant effect of the "sampling site", which was reflected in all parameters evaluated. The "year" factor had a significant effect primarily on the retention water capaciy parameter, such that there was a significant increase in retention water capacity between 2013-2015, in parallel for both sub-localities. All the monitored physical parameters of the soil on both plots showed values that indicate that the grazing carried out had no significant negative impact on the structural state of the humus horizon, thus on the physical properties of the soil.
