The article presents the results of the evaluation of the expediency of effective selection of silver-black foxes in the selection of pairs by the condition of fatness, which was determined with the aid of a new index. In the course of the research it was established that the variability of the reproductive capacity is determined by the weight and linear characteristics of individual individuals participating in mating. The use of variants of homogeneous selection of parental pairs ♀0.64-0.68х♂≤0.69, in spite of the low level of fertilization, provides an increase in the number of puppies in the litter on the frail female, the increase in their level of preservation to the face, multiply, and improves reproductive quality of males. Meanwhile, heterogeneous selections of parental pairs give mixed results, although the most effective of them is the use of pairs ♀0.64-0.68х♂≥0.70.
