Biogas is one of the popular forms of renewable energy in Bangladesh. In this paper, the potential of livestock for the generation of biogas has been illustrated. The history of biogas plants, related activities and electricity generation from biogas in Bangladesh has also been discussed. Based on the potential, the union based biogas plant model has been presented and described how it would work. Three different divisions of Bangladesh have been considered for evaluating the potential and viability of this model. Under this model, each union can contribute 0.09 MW of electricity, and in total 161 MW of electricity can be generated in those divisions. This model can be handy for rural development but will be very challenging to implement and several factors required to be checked before the installations
