Mutnoća vode karstnih izvora | Turbidity of karst water springs
2020
Milanović, Petar
In natural conditions, after heavy rains the water discharged from karst springs almost always contains suspended solids that consist mostly of particles of varying sizes. The majority are particles of high plasticity such as clay. In some cases, the turbidity is so extreme that the water becomes non-potable. Increasing of turbidity is mostly consequence of natural events (precipitation and flood) but also can be a consequence of anthropogenic events in catchment area such are reservoirs and large infrastructure works. Less frequent can be sudden and extensive increases of turbidity can occur after earthquakes when, due to seismic waves, huge amounts of clay are squeezed from the karst joints
