The question of the possibility of using agro-industrial waste and the food industry by-products has showed the direction for numerous researches. By-products from the oil industry (cakes, meal and hull), which lag behind after the oilseparation are nutritionally rich, so the potential of their application is recognized not only in the food industry, butfor obtaining biopolymer and composite packaging materials, as well. Oil cake application for the mentioned purposesusually requires modification in the form of processing into flour or ingredients that can be used for food fortification.Oil cake represents approximately 50% of the initial seed mass, whose main components are proteins, fibers, oil, aswell as numerous bioactive compounds. As such, due to its high protein content, oil cake is an excellent raw materialfor the bipolymer materials production, which can be used for packaging and storage of food products. In this way, multiple benefits are realized - valorization of oil industry by-products and production of biodegradable materials fromrenewable sources. The aim of this paper is to review the possibility of oil cakes valorization through biopolymer filmsproduction, based on previous studies, in order to approach further development of research in this scientific area.
