The calamity occurrence of field voles was recorded in the territory of Moravia and Silesia in 2019. This population explosion followed the long period of rainfall deficiency and abnormal temperatures in 2018 and mild winter. Also dry weather in March and April 2019 was favourable for field voles population expansion. The animals are occurring approximately in 30-50 % of winter crop stands in the start of 2020 season. To reduce field voles population effectively is possible in the period out of main vegetation season, best after the harvest and before new winter stands establishment. Consistent destruction of vegetation in the fields as well as on non-agriculturaly used land, mechanical soil cultivation including deep ploughing as key regulation step and the use of rhodenticides are the main stones of fight strategy. It is useful to combine them and repetitively apply in two week intervals to paralyse the field vole population and to decrease the number of animals to minimal level.
