Characterization of the potential for the production of organic cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.) in the municipalities Cajigal and Arismendi of the state Sucre, Venezuela | Caracterización del potencial para la Producción de cacao orgánico (Theobroma cacao L.) en los municipios Cajigal y Arismendi del estado Sucre, Venezuela

The present investigation has for purpose to know the practice of managing most used in the production of cocoa and the principal technical probleMON that the producers of the Peninsula of Paría must confront, during the transition towards the production of organic cocoa. For it the survey was used as instrument of compilation of information. 135 units of production were selected on the basis of the size and location; 76 in the municipality Cajigal and 59 in the municipality Arismendi. The obtained results indicate that the production of cocoa, so much in the municipality Cajigal as Arismendí, is influenced principally by the age of the producer, level of instruction, composition of the familiar workforce, possession of the land, as well as by environmental factors and agronomic management that carry out the producer.

La presente investigación tiene por finalidad conocer las prácticas de manejo más utilizadas en la Producción de cacao y los principales problemas técnicos que deben afrontar los productores de la Península de Paría durante la transición hacia la Producción de cacao orgánico. Para ello se utilizó la encuesta como instrumento de recolección de información. Se seleccionaron 135 unidades de Producción en base al tamaño y ubicación; 76 en el municipio Cajigal y 59 en el municipio Arismendí. Los resultados obtenidos indican que la Producción de cacao, tanto en el municipio Cajigal como Arismendí, está influenciada principalmente por la edad del productor, nivel de instrucción, composición de la mano de obra familiar, tenencia de la tierra, así como por factores ambientales y manejo agronómico que realice el productor.
