En el primer artículo el objetivo fue conocer la composición, riqueza, diversidad y estructura de las cercas vivas en la finca del CATIE. Se realizó un inventario forestal de las cercas vivas internas y externas en la finca Agropecuaria, en cada una se tomó los puntos extremos con el uso del GPS para su ubicación dentro de la finca y determinar la longitud. Las especies dominantes fueron Erythrina fusca lour (45.8%), Gliricidia sepium (16.8%), Erythrina costaricensis (17.5%) y Trichantera gigantea (9.94%). El segundo artículo tuvo como objetivo evaluar el efecto de la sombra de las cercas vivas, sobre la disponibilidad de pastos, las variables fisiológicas (temperatura rectal y tasa respiratoria), comportamiento animal (pastoreo, descanso y rumia), y Producción de leche de vacas lecheras.En cuanto a la disponibilidad de pastos, en ambas épocas (invierno y verano) los potreros sin cercas vivas tuvieron la mayor disponibilidad en comparación a los potreros con cercas vivas (1275.74 vs 1095.93 kg MON/ha/ciclo en invierno The research was conducted at CATIE Agricultural farm, on Turrialba, Costa Rica. The first article determine the composition, richness, diversity and structure of hedgerows on the farm. Forest inventory was conducted of internal and external hedges in the agricultural farm, each took the end points with the use of GPS for location within the property and determine the length. The dominant species were Erythrina fusca Lour (45.8%), Gliricidia sepium (16.8%), Erythrina costaricensis (17.5%) and Trichantera gigantea (9.94%). The second article was to evaluated the effects of the shadow of the live fences, pasture availability, physiological variables (rectal temperature and respiratory rate), animal behavior (grazing, rest and rumination), and milk production of dairy cows.Regarding the availability of pasture, in both seasons (winter and summer) unfenced pastures had the highest live availability compared to pastures with fences (1275.74 vs 1095.93 kg MON/ha/cycle in winter, 1356.75 vs 1254.70 kg MON /ha /cycle in summer).
