Characteristics of some soybean varieties by character of "cross-tolerance"

Due to the global climate change on Earth, the necessity of knowing the adaptive capabilities of crop varieties to extreme abiotic factors’ fluctuations and tolerance to several environmental factors arises. Current paper studies on example of four soybean varieties the possibility to induce cross-tolerance by exposing the plants cultivated under conditions of moisture-controlled environment to moderate water deficiency. Plant exposure to short-term moderate drought during early phases of development triggers mechanisms that increase plant tolerance to extreme oscillations of environmental factors – repeated moisture deficiency, hypo- and/or hyperthermic stresses. The dependence of the manifestation of cross-tolerance on the inherent resistance potential of the variety was found.
