The Department of Veterinary Medicine was founded in 2000 at the Faculty of Agriculture, University ofNovi Sad. It is organized as a single unit and integrates teaching, animal health care, scientific researchand education of veterinary personnel. In accordance with the Law on Higher Education, it is necessary tocarry out, at regular intervals, an external quality review of a higher education institution and studyprograms, called accreditation. Accreditation assesses the fulfillment of quality standards in highereducation. The quality standards that should be read and understood by all prospective students and theirparents, current students, alumni and veterinary doctors are the purpose, goals and outcomes of the studyprograms. These standards briefly describe why a study program is implemented, what it means to theindividual and society as a whole, how it is implemented, and what students will know and be able to doupon graduation. These standards must be in accordance with national and international regulations in thefield of veterinary and veterinary higher education, thus creating the condition for obtaining valid andrecognized degrees of veterinary doctors. The aim of this paper is to present the purpose, goals andoutcomes of the study programs of integrated, specialist and doctoral studies in veterinary medicine,which have been implemented at the Department of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Agriculture,University of Novi Sad for two decades.
