Determination parent material effects on some soil properties and productivity in the semi-arid environment

Soil is a complex system resulting from the mixed effects of different soil forming factors. The main material that forms soil however is an extremely effective factor on soil development processes, amount of nutrients and its availability. This study presents soil formation processes occurring on geological formations with different ages and origins and the effect of the main material on the soil's physical and chemical efficiency. With this purpose a total of five profiles in three different main materials, which are alluvial, lacustrine and volcanic have been explained. According to the achieved results, the pH-value of all soils is over 7. All of the soil is very chalky. The texture ranged from clay and sandy clay. There was no salinity in the soil. The organic substance, regardless of the main material, was lower. The clay mineralogy of the soils showed similar features. In terms of prime minerals the volcanic soil has a bigger mineral diversity. According to the obtained data there was no important difference in terms of physical and chemical efficiency despite of differences in the main material. The most important difference emerged in the diversity and amount of biodegradable mineral content. According to this the potential chemical efficiency of the volcanic soil is higher than of the main material of the other soils. The heavy metal content of all main materials, except Cr, was lower than the allowed maximum limit values.
