The studies on the control effects of various pesticide applications against the larvae of the vector mosquitoes, Culex tritaeniorhynchus and Anopheles sinensis were done in 1979 and 1980, by means of testing bioassays in the experimental tanks and observing the reduction rate of the natural populations in the rice fields. The intensive use of insecticides against rice pests has produced high resistance of the vector mosquitoes to insecticides, whereas other aquatic invertebrates including predators are highly susceptible. Among 14 insecticides tested, cartap, EPN, chloropyrifos, and carbaryl were effective for C. tritaeniorhynchus control and only cartap was susceptible to A. sinensis. Therefore, cartap is the most promising compound to be able to control both vector-mosquitoes. Residual effects of the pesticides in the experimental tank lasted 2-3 days and was estimated to 4-5 days in natural rice fields.
