Histomorphological studies were conducted to compare the process of healing of tibial fractures following external and internal immobilization in 36 adult sheep. Results demonstrated an early and better healing of fractures under rigid stabilization achieved either by intramedullary pinning or stainless steel plating. Microscopically, new cartilagenous and osseous tissue bridging the fractures immobilized only by simple coaptation where the callus was predominantly of fibrocartilagenous in nature even up to sixth week
