Adaptability of Indica-japonica rice under tropical condition [Philippines] 1: response of Suweon 258 to different nitrogen levels as compared to IR-36

This study focuses on the comparative performance in tropical environment at various levels of nitrogen of Indica breed line IR-36 and Indica-japonica hybrid, Suweon 258. IR-36 is currently a high yielding variety in the Philippines while Suweon 258 is a recognized potential yielder in sub-temperate areas. The results of different levels of nitrogen fertilization on grain production per unit area of IR-36 and Suweon 258 under Philippine aerial environment, showed that Suweon 258 is an excellent substitute of IR-36. It cannot replace IR-36 for grain production
