The rate of gain in height and proportionate gain in weight varied appreciably among different children, and there was dissociation between the two gains in individuals. There was a discrepancy between estimates of growth in height in relation to food intake according to whether use was made of observed values or values obtained from regression equations. The values for the ratio, gain in height/intake of food, were within the expected range estimated from standard measurements. The subjects' rate of growth in relation to protein intake was only half of the expected ratios based on standard values. The results illustrated that the individual children varied in the extent to which they gained height or weight in relation to their intake of food
