The studies on biology and effect of gamma radiation on the growth and development of rice moth (Corcyra cephalonica Staint.) were investigated in the laboratory. The rice moth was reared on 5% milled rice at 31.7 deg C and 72.2% R.H. The results showed that the incubation period was 4.3 days. The larvae molted 5-7 times. The time required for the larval and pupal development was 32.93 and 9.6 days respectively. Life cycle of the insect from egg to adult was completed in about 54.13 days. A comparison of life-history at 20 deg C and 30 deg C indicated that the development period at 20 deg C was longer than at 30 deg C. The comparative studies of development on different food materials showed that the growth and development time for C. cephalonica reared on cereal seeds was greater than those reared on leguminous seeds. The broken maize appeared to be the best material for growth and development of the rice moth
