A path coefficient analysis was used to determine the direct and indirect effects of leaf nutrient concentrations on yield of oil palm. The study revealed that the anionic elements in leaf tissue such as N, P and Cl have a positive direct effect with yield whereas cationic elements such as K, Ca and Mg exhibited a negative direct effect. However, combinations of either elements, anionic (N + P + Cl) or cationic, exhibited a negative or a positive direct effect with yield, respectively. A negative interaction of K and Na in leaf tissue was also observed, possibly caused by K/Na antagonism
