After transplanting into the field most buds on budded stumps and maxi stumps of Hevea remain dormant for a few days and in many cases for several weeks. Under unfavourable weather conditions, handling and transportation the buds take longer time to emerge. The rate of bud emergence depends mainly on the time of budding and of cutback. Ooi et al showed that delay in cutback of up to six months did not affect the sucess of bud emergence and transplanting. However, delay in cutback will delay the rate of bud emergence, which is subsequently followed by delay in scion growth resulting in non-uniformity of height and girth of plants. The initial six weeks after transplanting are critical for the survival of budded stumps. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out experiments on induction of earlier and uniform bud bread, which could aid greater survival rate and enable the planting materials to withstand adverse weather conditions for a longer period
