Karim, R. | Levinson, F.J.
This paper examines several means of addressing primary socio-economic constraint to improved nutrition through food and agricultural policy. It also concentrates on means by which agricultural production and food distribution policies in Bangladesh can be re-oriented to better address the needs of low income, malnourished population groups. Particular attention is given to the identification of food commodities which are biased toward the needs of this group in terms of their caloric yield, cost production, required inputs, employment generation, and consumption characteristics. Recommendations are then offered on means of promoting the production and consumption of these crops through production, price and distribution policy. Suggestions also are made for means of regularly assessing the consumption effects of existing or proposed food and agricultural policies and programmes.
