The influence of mating on fecundity, fertility and adult longevity of pulse beetles, Callosobruchus chinensis (L.)

The fecundity, fertility and adult longevity of the mated pulse beetles, callosobruchus chinensis (L.) were studied. The pre-oviposition period and the frequency of mating of this insect were also studied. The mated females laid much more eggs than the unmated females. The mated females laid 74% viable eggs and no viable egg was laid by the unmated females. The pre-oviposition period for the unmated females was longer than that of the mated females. The mated females died faster than the unmated females and the mated males lived longer than the unm0960ated males.
