Shahjahan, M. | Islam, B.N.
Leaves collected from mulberry plants grown in different places of Bangladesh were analysed for biochemical composition. When different types of mulberry leaves (1st, 2nd 3rd 4th and mixed) were used as food, better growth was observed in the silkworm fed on 3rd and 4th leaves. The weight of cocoon and weight and length of the thread were also found to be positively correlated when the silkwo1552rm fed on 3rd and 4th leaves. Idenfitication of the free amino acids occurring in different leaves was carried out. The number of free amino acids increased with the age of the leaves. Ten amino acids were identified namely aspartic acid, methionine, threonine, lysine, arginine, histidine, leucine, proline, tryptophan and isoleucine. The particular type of amino acids might play an important role for the optimum growth of silkworm and production of s
