Associations between nine characters showed that in Brassica juncea yield had positive significant genotypic correlations with days to maturity, plant height, number of primary branches, number of siliqua on main raceme, number of siliqua on lateral branches, siliqua length and 1000 seed weight. Among these, the number of primary branches had the highest positive correlations (0.6589) with yield. The study of path co-efficient analysis revealed that in B. juncea highest direct effect was contributed by number of primary branches but the value was negative. Highest positive direct effect (9.652) was contributed by siliqua length. The point of interest was that though number of primary branch in B. juncea had highest negative direct effect on yield, the correlation of yield with this trait was found to be the highest positively significant one.
