Succession of phytoplankton population in four newly constructed ponds was observed for a period of 110 days in 1983. Occurrence of phytoplankton was irregular in all the four ponds. Myxophyceae, Bacillariophyceae and Chlorophyceae were the most dominant groups. Unfavourable meteorological and limnological factors prevailing in the ponds were the causes behind poor production of phytoplankton. Various correlations between phytoplankton and limnological factors were established. The positive correlation with dissolved oxygen and pH and inverse correlation with free carbondioxide were highly significant at 5% level of probability. Multiple correlation co-efficients of physico-chemical factors with Bacillariophyceae in pond 2 and with Myxophyceae in pond 1 were also significant at 5% level of probability.
