Double infection of sweet potato plants with sweet potato feathery mottle and cucumber mosaic viruses caused severe degeneration, involving stunting and yellowing, of the plants. Serological methods were adapted and virus-tested propagation material was obtained from meristems. Transmission of cucumber mosaic virus to healthy sweet potato plants failed, but was easily achieved if the acceptor plants carried sweet potato feathery mottle virus
