A field survey showed that farmers in Jordan Valley use all types of nitrogen and phosphate fertilizers available to fertilize vegetable crops - mainly cucumber and tomato - i2048nside the plastic houses. No significant bases for determination of the amounts of fertilizers needed were followed. Most of the farmers usually use amounts which generally exceed the crops needs. About 50% of the farmers used more than 6 sub (m3) of organic fertilizers per dunum, 40% used more than 60 kg N/d and about 37% used more than 12 kg p/d. Due to such high amounts of fertilizers the salt accumulation in the surface soil inside the plastic houses was significant. Also a significant decrease in soil pH was observed. On the other hand available P content was high in the soil and it increased significantly inside the plastic houses. The increases in organic matter, K and micronutrients (Fe, Zn, Mn, Cu) were not signifi
