Propagation of three grapevine rootstock cultivars: effect of refrigeration and growth regulators [Ruggeri 140, Paulsen 1130 and 41-B]

Hardwood cuttings of three grape rootstock cultivars, R-140, 41-B and P-1103 were stored at 5 deg C +- 2 for 50 and 86 days. After that the basal ends of the cuttings were treated with 25, 50 or 100 ppm of indolebutyric acid (IBA) and naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA). Then the cuttings were packed in moist wood shavings and allowed to form roots in a warm room. Prolonged refrigeration retarded the rooting and reduced the average number of roots per cutting in the rootstock cultivars P-1103 and R-140. In 41-B prolonged refrigeration had no effect upon the rooting of hardwood cuttings and exhibited only a slight effect upon the average number of roots. NAA and IBA at 25, 50 and 100 ppm improved in most cases, although not always significantly, the rooting and the average number of roots in cuttings of the three rootstocks cultivars when applied after 50 or 86 days of cold stora1107ge.
