This experiment was carried out to study the influence of flooding on the growth, bulb development and storage life of garlic grown in pot and field. The obtained results are summarized as follows. Flooding damage was more severe in bulb developing period than in harvesting season and when water temperature was relatively high. Respiration rate was drastically accelerated from 5 days of waterlogging treatment according to reducing the chlorophyll content. Bulb weight as affected by waterlogging treatments was negatively correlated with flooding depth and periods especially in early and middle growing stage. Growth and bulb development was retarded by flooding to the end of leaf s0917heath than soil surface waterlogging, and garlic plant withered to death after flooding for 10
