This paper showed the process of nutrient uptake in aspen seedlings with special regard to their assimilating parts. The changes in the content of NPK, Ca, Mg, Mn and Zn were strictly connected with the position of leaves on the shoot fallen leaves and the time when the seedlings were taken for analysis. The chemical analysis of seedlings leaves showed th1703at with the senescence of leaves the content of N, P and K decreased and that of Ca, Mg and Zn increased. Factors accelarating or retarding the growth of plants (e.g. drought or pH) might cause changes in the content of these nutrients in leaves. The nutrient content in leaves together with the process of biomass increment made possible the estimation of the state of nutrients in the whole seed
