The sprinkler irrigation and higher nitrogen fertilization rates resulted in an increase of the yield of sugar be1832et roots by 107% and that of leaves - even by 270%. In dry years much higher effectiveness of the above factors was observed. The nitrogen rate of 180 kg N/ha led to an increase of the yield of sugar beet roots by 51% and that of leaves - by 120%. The sprinkler irrigation and nitrogen fertilization caused a decrease of the dry matter content in roots and leaves by about 3% and the sugar content in roots by 1.5% on light soil and 1.9% on heavy soil. The effectiveness of 1 kg N used on light soil in the irrigation treatments increased by 109% and the productivity of 1 mm of water by 248% on light and by 11% - on heavy
