The experiment was carried out at the University Farm, Sokoine University of Agriculture, Morogoro, during 1985/86 cropping season. Ten entries obtained from ICRISAT, India with Accession Numbers ICPL 140, ICPL 151, ICPL 269, ICPL 312, ICPL 84034, ICPL 84035, ICPL 84037, ICPL 84038, ICPL 84039 and ICPL 87 were evaluated for adaptability and their suitability to environment under the Tanzanian conditions. Characters studied included plant survival, days to 50% flowering and days to physiological maturity, total plant he1677ight at maturity, the branching pattern pod number per plant, seeds per pod, 100-seed weight and seed yield per unit area. Based on seed yield data alone, most of the entries tested seemed to be adaptable to this environment and yielded favourably with entries ICPL 84038, ICPL 140, ICPL 84035 and ICPL 312 excelling the rest. Days to 50% flowering, together with days to maturity did not vary very much. All the characters studied showed a positive correlation coefficient with total seed y
