Fluvisols, developed from alluvial, colluvial and alluvial-colluvial profiles, dominate in the region of Popovo polje, a karst depression in Herzegovina (SFRY). No morphological manifestations of gleying were noticed in these soils, although there were annual floods of 6 to 9 months. This phenomenon is defined as non-gleyed hydromorphism. Considerable heterogeneities in the vertical stratigraphy of the profiles were found. There were cases of surface layers having lighter texture, but there were opposite phenomena as well. Filtration values were different.
