Experiments of rice green smut [Ustilaginoidea virens (cooke) Tak.] were conducted in Hunan Province during 1982-1987. The results showed that the incidence of the disease was affected by the disease resistance of different varieties of rice and weather conditions in the period from booting to lateheading stage. During the period, the high frequency of rain, high relative humidity, short sunshine during the day, and little difference in temperature between the day and the night were the main factors inducing the occurence of rice green smut. Duojuntong showed superior control effect over that of Jingangmycin and other tested fungicides. Spraying 6% Duojuntong at early or middle booting stage was effective and economical.
