The trace elements in different soil types in Shandong province showed skew distribution which could be exactly described with median, upper and lower limits or average deviation. Brown earth belonged to low B and high Fe and Mn group; cinnamon soil and Shajiang black soil, low Zn and B; fluvo-aquic soil low Zn, Mn and high Cu; saline soil low Zn and high B and Cu; aeolian soil low Zn, B and Mn, paddy soil low Zn and B, and high Cu, Fe and Mn group. Cluster analysis showed that the soil classification of Shandong was applicable to the study of content and distribution of soil trace elements and application of these elements. The vertical distribution of soil available Zn and B decreased with the depth except that of easily reducible Mn.
