In the hilly areas of Gunung Kidul there is still an opportunity to increase food crop production without neglecting soil erosion control. Yogyakarta Rural Development Project started in 1981 had an objective to manage hill side farming with less erosion by developing and rehabilitating land terrace, followed by planting food crop, tree crop, and fodder crop using improved varieties and additional input especially manure. The objective of the study is to evaluate net farm income increase due to the application of new food crop technology recommended by the project. With the additional 49 percent labor, 97 percent stable manure, 14 percent urea, and 33 percent TSP using new cropping pattern, there was an additional yield of paddy (39 percent), corn (49 percent), peanuts (39 percent), soybeans (10 percent), and cassava (21 percent). The average net farm income was Rp. 1,316,000,-/ha/year which could be increased by 29 percent or Rp. 383,000,-/ha/year using new technology recommended by the project.
