Screening of fungal strains for amylase production

A screening procedure for production of fungal amylases using synthetic media (Solid and Liquid) was used. Date extract media was utilized in the screening of seventeen fungal strains for amylase production. Aspergillus niger and Fusarium solani were selected as the most productive strains based on their amylase activity in the solid synthetic media, liquid synthetic media, and date extract media. Amylase activity levels of these strains were similar to those of Aspergillus niger. ATCC 16888 (reference strain) at varoius screening stages. Moreover, Aspergillus niger amylase has an optimum pH for activity at 6.0 and was most stable at a pH range of (3-7). The enzyme was stable even after incubation for 30 min at 65 deg C
