Evaporation is one of the principal components of the water cycle and is of great importance with regard to the establishment of water balances for large water bodies of open water such as lakes and reserviors. The increasing importance of water in the world economy is prompting some nations to investigate the use of some materials for evaporation control as a means of serving this precious resource. In the present study, polystyrene beads were tested as evaporation control material under the field conditions and for two following summer seasons in order to obtain the efficiency of beads for evaporation suppression and its effects on the water characteristics. It was found that, mixed polystyrene beads suppressed evaporation by 39% under the normal conditions during one summer season. This percentage decreased to 29% after one year, continuous disturbance is achieved to prevent the beads from accumulating dust
