Present situation and prospects for the use of germplasm sources in garden pea breeding [Romania]
1988
Scurtu, I.
The paper analyses the gene sources for some of the main objectives established for green peas breeding in Romania. The structure of the peas germplasm collection comprises mainly grown peas cultivars and also some cultivars and forms of fodder peas, totalizing about 350 variants. The collection also comprises several interesting lines, obtained by mutagenesis. The paper presents in detail the gene sources and the results obtained as regards high yielding ability, earliness, cold resistance, high sugar content, fineness of the peas, a high suitability for mechanical harvest, simultaneous ripening of the pods and resistance to lodging. The breedings carried out at the Research Institute for Vegetable and Flower Growing Vidra led to the creation of some green peas lines yielding more than 15 t/ha green pods, with fine peas fit for mechanical harvest which are now under tests in comparative crops
