The dynamics of different parameters of the daily periodic locomotor activity in Carabus auronitens (Coleoptera, Carabidae)

Research into daily periodic locomotor activity of C. auronitens led to the calculation of a couple of parameters which are supposed to reveal a more differentiated view of the term "activity". The temporal dynamics of these parameters exhibit some quantitative expression of changes which in the actograms are discernible as shifting activity time only. As the results indicate any changes in the amount of activity are a consequence of variations in activity duration rather than in intensity of activity. Activity duration changes in two geographically distinct groups of animals primarily by means of changing burst length. A contradictory result from a single exemplified specimen (with rather distinct changes in burst number) is, therefore, likely to be an individual deviation from the "basic" strategy. Although any statistical significance is lacking (probably due to the low number of sample animals or to lacking seasonal synchronisation among the animals) the dynamics of the examined parameters contain some reasonable interpretation value when discussing the observed activity pattern changes in these ground beetles
