With the aim of increasing per hectare meat production and experiment was conducted in 1979-1980 on the Chiapas coast to compare the effect of grazing young Swiss-zebu bulls in African star Cynodon plectostachyus unfertilized, with different levels of nitrogenized fertilization, and combined with grazing for a limited time in guaje Leucaena leucocephala. An animal load of five head per hectare were used for each treatment, which consisted of grazing in unfertilized African star; grazing in African star plus two hours of grazing in guaje; grazing in African star fertilized with 100 kg of nitrogen plus one hour of grazing in guaje, and grazing in African star with 200 kg of nitrogen. Results show that average gains were 34,392, 152,368 and 180 g/animal/day, respectively. As a preliminary conclusion, it can be stated from this study that raising the amount of nitrogen fertilizer in African star and including guaje in the diet causes increased daily weight gains in grazing animals and prolongs the feeding period in the dry season.
