Our previous studies suggest that the requirement of dairy cattle in Indonesia were different from the National Research Council of USA (NRC) standards. Reasons for the differences were the animal genetic potentials, feed quality and other environmental factors. There is a need therefore, to modify the standards. Results of several feeding trials in 258 lactating dairy cows of 219-630 kg live weight and 2.9-20.9 kg/d milk production were compiled and analyzed by using a regression equation to obtain the estimated values for daily intake of TDN (total digestible nutrients, kg/d/cow) and CP (crude protein, kg/d/cow). It was found that the requirements of daily intake of TDN and CP for cows producing milk 13 kg/d or more were essentially the same as the NRC standards.
