Work being done at MAF Technology's Organics Unit at Flock House, Bulls, New Zealand is described. By using a combination of strategic management and a wide variety of pasture species and herbs the unit hopes to do without conventional drenches and chemicals for animal health. The unit covers 44ha and an integrated system combining sheep, cattle and crops has been devised. Around 45% is in crops (oats, wheat, barley, peas and small seeds) and 55% in pasture. A 12 year rotation is used. Worm resistance is being selected for in the ewe flock and a wide variety of pasture species is used
