The invasion of the Aussie blowfly [Lucilia cuprina]
1989
Bray, M.
The Australian green blowfly, Lucilia cuprina, arrived in New Zealand in 1988. This fly attacks more frequently, has a higher larval survival rate on live sheep and is more resistant to insecticides than other species. Research being undertaken at Wallaceville Animal Research Centre, New Zealand is described. Genetically modified flies should be the priority programme but work is also being done on the possibility of selecting and breeding from sheep not attractive to the fly. Vaccination against flystrike is another possibility
