1989
Renius, K.T. (Technische Univ., Muenchen (Germany, F.R.). Lehrstuhl fuer Landmaschinen)
About 80 % of all new registered tractors in the FRG tractors sales make up about 80 % of all machinery, are equipped with four-wheel drive (4WD). In comparison, the market share in the fifties amounted to only a few percent. The strange "extra" of those times became standard equipment today. This recent development was mainly forwarded by the European countries, with leading innovations by the FRG. Important milestones before world war II were set by the US companies. The success of the tractor's 4WD in Europe has also influenced other vehicle concepts - even passenger cars, where such a widespread popularity was unexpected.
