Three new breeds ZE-S-IV, ZE-S-V and ZE-S-VH along with the control variety Palava were studied for the sowing rate (7 and 3.5 million of germinable seeds) and three procedures of utilization (three cuts, four cuts depending on development, four cuts with fixed cut times and five cuts). The response of all items of the trial was practically similar. The higher field emergence of crops was recorded after lower sowing rate; the stand density expressed by number of stalks per 1 m2 was lower in the first year of utilization; in the second year the system of utilization exerted higher influence. The yields, when lower sowing rate was applied, were lower by 1 to 6.5 per cent. The highest yield was recorded in four cuts depending on the development. The Palava variety was found to be the best of all trial items as far as the yield is concerned, followed by the new breed ZE-S-VH. No interaction between varieties and systems of utilization or sowing rates was confirmed.
