Genotype-environment interaction on the vegetative growth of the oil palm seedlings
1986
Pamin, K. (Balai Penelitian Perkebunan Medan (Indonesia))
Twenty five Dura (D) x Pisifera (P) crosses were grown at three different locations, viz., Parlabian, Keraksaan and Sei Yu Estates (North Sumatra, Indonesia). A randomized complete block design with four replications was used in each location. Measurements were taken on a number of vegetative traits, such as plant height, leaf length, leaf area, cross section of petioles and stem diameter. Results showed that the interaction was significant for plant height, leaf length, leaf area, cross section of petioles and stem diameter. This means that an attempt to obtain a superior variety through a breeding method in environment factors falling within the range sampled is impossible. (Author's abstract)
