Weeds and their influence on yields and quality of alfalfa

Weeds positively affect the total yield of dry matter but they have negative influence on the alfalfa yield. The highly significant negative effect of weeds on alfalfa was found in the years when alfalfa was sown on earlier date (1989). On the other hand weeds insignificantly influenced the change of qualitative indices in alfalfa. The quality of forage was influenced by the percentage and species as well as by the weed growth stage at mowing.
